The directors of BrightStart Children's Academy, Evelyn Tsai and Carol Wiens, are two Port Coquitlam moms, who met each other over 15 years ago while their daughters were in kindergarten. Their five children are grown up now - with five as high school graduates - so while they don't require childcare these days, they are well aware of the urgent need for quality daycare.

Evelyn and Carol have enjoyed living and raising their families in Port Coquitlam. Observing the demand for quality, professional childcare, they decided to give back to their community by drawing on their experience to open a full-service daycare. Both are educated in early childhood with additional backgrounds in childcare management, curriculum planning, ECE instruction and business management.

An ideal location was found in Riverwood Gate - a newly developed family neighbourhood - close to schools, parks and commuter routes. After working with an architect, the municipality and licensing bodies, a 5000 square foot facility was designed to accommodate 75 children from infant to 12 years.

BrightStart Children's Academy entered the Port Coqutilam community with a ribbon cutting ceremony and programs started July 2009. Two years later a second location became available in Westwood Plateau - on 1.2 acres of spectacular view property across the street from an elementary school. After extensive renovations and seismic upgrades, the former Wesbild Visitor Information Centre took on a new look as the second campus of BrightStart Children's Academy. Mid-March 2011 saw the opening of this campus.

BrightStart is not associated with any daycare franchises or big box operators. We are a local, community based facility - most of our staff live right in the neighbourhood. The philosophy, programming and curriculum of BrightStart are a result of Evelyn and Carol's extensive research into the needs and demands of Tri-City families.

Children are like seedlings - requiring nurture to grow into their potential. Evelyn and Carol's desire is to nurture your child's growth through enriched programming, early learning and play.
